Phosphorus Reduction Plan for Indian Lake, Worcester, MA

Q12 Tuesday, August 21, 8:30 – 9:00 a.m. / Grand Ballroom C

The city of Worcester is expecting to have to develop a phosphorus reduction plan, and in preparation it conducted a 12-month review and assessment of historic surface water quality data, as well as an extensive monitoring program. A model was developed for a lake within the city’s boundaries using calculated phosphorus loads and measured surface water quality; it incorporates load reductions from existing structural and nonstructural BMPs. An analysis of life-cycle costs and effectiveness of various phosphorus reduction options was completed, focusing on sub-basins with highest phosphorus loads.
